Ep-5: Youth
The Lord Mahavir exhibited profound spirituality from his time in the womb. His mind and thoughts were detached from the worldly affairs surrounding him. Recognizing his disposition, his parents pondered how to persuade him to marry when the time came. Coincidentally, King Samarsingh sent his ministers with a proposal for Vardhmankumar to marry his daughter, Yashoda.Queen Trishladevi was already eager for her son's marriage.Understanding the situation, the wise mother chose not to approach Vardhmankumar directly. Instead, she explained the circumstances to his friends and sent them to convince him. If they could persuade Vardhmankumar, she reasoned, the marriage could proceed smoothly.
When his friends attempted to persuade him, Vardhmankumar, calm and resolute, explained, "Friends, our lives are as fragile as a drop of dew on the tip of a blade of grass. A single gust of wind, and the drop is carried away. Similarly, life is uncertain; it can end at any moment. I am eager to renounce household life and take monastic vows (diksha), but my parents' affection for me concerns me. It will be very difficult for them to live without me, and that thought is preventing me from taking diksha."
These discussions took time, and upon noticing the situation, the mother joined them. Vardhmankumar respectfully asked his mother why she had troubled herself to come instead of sending for him. The conversation about marriage continued, and finally, the mother insisted, "Son, for my sake, please agree to this marriage." Recognizing the inevitability of the situation and as a means to ensure everyone's happiness, including his eventual decision to take diksha, Vardhmankumar agreed to his mother's request. With his consent, a grand wedding ceremony was arranged that delighted the entire city.
